As we are acquainted with the meaning of literature the art of written works that maybe link in the past events, human experiences, the cultures and religion of certain place, the way of life and the form of expression of other people, we sometimes get confused of where to categorized the Graffiti. Graffiti is the term used for any images or lettering scratch, scrawled, painted or marked in any manner on property. It is any type of public markings that may appear in the forms of simple written words to elaborate wall paintings. We get baffled by the meaning of graffiti that uses written words to create an artistic design that is why many people have mistakenly put graffiti under the literature. But before concluding this idea I must say now that Graffiti is not a Literature. Graffiti uses different kinds of tools of expressing their thoughts. Yes, they can use letters but it does not stick to that stuff. Graffiti is a form of art that sometimes expresses social and political messages and a whole genre of artistic expression is based upon spray paint graffiti styles. Painting is one good example of graffiti in the modern days. It is the spray paint, and marker pens that become the most commonly used graffiti materials. Graffiti has evolved into a pop culture existence often related to underground hip hop music, b-boying, and a lifestyle that remains hidden from the general public. Graffiti is an art form worthy of display in galleries and exhibitions but to others it is merely vandalism. Marking or painting property without the property owner's consent is considered defacement and vandalism, which is a punishable crime. We can categorize graffiti as a form of arts but not a literature since it does not contain any genre of it like, poems, novels, short story, essays, drama and letter. Graffiti may consist letters but not long enough that it may contain the said genres. In this day and age graffiti are used as a gang signal to mark territory or to serve as an indicator or tag for gang-related activity. There are many different types and styles of graffiti and it is a rapidly developing art form whose value is highly contested, hated by many authorities while also subject to protection, sometimes within the same jurisdiction that are in extremely different with the styles and types of literature and of course literature is highly regarded by others and need not any policy rule to produce or publish. Yes these two falls under arts where peoples work can be the window of the audience in their soul but it doesn’t mean that we can consider graffiti as a literature. We should not be confused in dealing these two. We have to remember that literature is not written on bathroom stalls, public billboards and walls, on school desks, and even chalked on the sidewalk. Literature is published in a formal way, like in papers where people can easily read written details.
